With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jean Marion MacLean, age 93, on Monday, December 25, 2017.
Born in Kemptown, NS on May 9, 1924, Jean was the daughter of the late R. Ambrose Hingley and May (Cruickshank) Hingley.
Jean was a proud graduate of the nursing program at Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, receiving the Gold Medal for highest aggregate (when she graduated in 1945). She nursed in various hospitals, including Veterans Hospital, Cornwallis, NS and Westminster Veterans Hospital, London, ON. Jean enjoyed her neighbours, her gardens, her church fellowship, and swimming, but she especially loved her family.
She is survived by daughter, Candace (Wayne) Sarty, Sydney Forks and daughter-in-law, Sharon MacLean, Picton, ON. She was extremely proud of her grandson, Bretton MacLean and her granddaughters, Kathryn (Pat) Shannon, Jennifer (Tristan) Rees Jones, and great-granddaughter, Alexandra Rees Jones, all of Toronto, ON. She will also be missed by her “adopted” son, Colin (Ruth) MacDonald, Florence NS; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence J. (Carnie) MacLean; son, Kenneth James MacLean; an infant son; her brother, Theodore Hingley; her sister, Edith Hingley and brother-in-law, Warren Hingley.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Doug Kohlsmith and each and every one of the incredible staff of Miners’ Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
