Edith Piercey

Passed on: December 28th, 2017

With heartfelt sadness, we, the family of Edith Eunice Piercey, regret to announce her passing on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, with her loving family by her side.
Born April 2, 1934, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Martha (Kehoe) Musgrave.
Edith (lovingly referred to as Edie) had a true zest for life. She had the most contagious laugh and never passed up the chance to help someone in need. Edie lived her life with honesty and true passion, challenging the norm with her truly giving spirit. She worked hard her whole life - starting at a formerly well-known restaurant called Diana Sweets, moving to Canadian Tire and finally retiring from Tartan Downs (previously known as Cape Breton Turf Club). In her spare time, Edie was either listening (and dancing) to some country music or taking in a good game of Bingo with her beloved brother Winky. We would be remiss (and Mom would haunt us) if we didn't mention her love of Elvis. She was surrounded by Elvis memorabilia and wore her Elvis sneakers with such pride.
Edith is survived by her sons, George Jr. (Linda), Sydney and Troy (Suzanne), Glace Bay; sisters, Sandra Rutherford, Sydney and Anne Nicholson, New Waterford; brothers, Clarence Sr. (Georgina), New Waterford and Jackie (Alvina), Winnipeg, and grandchildren, Josh (Caitlin), Gregory (Hannah), Keith (Jane Anne), Shayne (Katrina), John (Rebecca), Ravin and Rayne. Edith was also blessed in her life with several great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Sr.; daughter, Diane Barrington, and brothers, Frank and Rudolph ‘Sonny’.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, January 3 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, January 4 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
A very special thank you to the management and staff of Maple Hill Manor for their loving care of our mom. You are truly in our hearts.
Memorials in Edith's memory may be made to Palliative Care.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
