Hubert McDonald

Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of Hubert McDonald who died in peace surrounded by his loving family December 27, 2017. Hubert was born in Poulamon, N.S. on December 6, 1928. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son, Gordon (Joanne); daughter, Nancy MacKay (Jack); grandchildren, Kevin McDonald, Craig MacKay (Stephanie), Lisa Totton (David); great-grandchild, Ava MacKay and his brother, Leonard McDonald. He was predeceased by his parents, Eva Jane (LeBlanc) and Charlie McDonald; brothers, Valma, Vernie, Stephen, Francis; sisters, Hazel Burke, Sophie Baxter, Isabelle Burke. Hubert was a proud member of UA Local 682 in Sydney N.S. for 62 years and a pipefitter/plumber by trade. He worked on big construction projects in N.S, N.B, P.E.I and ON. He enjoyed his work and was a mentor to those who followed in his footsteps. He loved to laugh, welcomed all into his home with hospitality and generosity and entertained us with his accordion and harmonica tunes. Most of all, he loved his family and was our guiding light. He encouraged us to do our best and was our biggest fan. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchild were his pride and joy and he gave freely of his time, wisdom, hugs and kisses. The love of his life was his wife Eleanor and they were happily married for 66 years. His was a life well lived. Please pray for him as he rests in peace. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. January 12, 2018 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish in Sydney N.S followed by Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
