Sinclair’s Island - Yvonne Carolyn Fraser, Mar. 13, 1931- Jan. 4, 2018. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne “Vonnie” Fraser (nee Cooke), age 86, of Glen Haven Manor, formerly of Sinclair’s Island.
She was born in New Glasgow to Harriett (nee Mason) and Thurston Cooke. She received her education at New Glasgow High School. Upon graduation, she began work in the family business, Cooke’s Transfer, where she was employed for many years. Von was an avid and skilled knitter, famous for her beautiful socks and at Christmas her plum puddings were always a hit.
After she married Donald Fraser, the family grew to include their three sons, Stuart, Aaron and Ken. The family resided in New Glasgow for several years, Noranda Que. for a short while but they eventually settled in beautiful Sinclair’s Island.
Yvonne is survived by her son, Aaron (Sherry Lynn Shaw), Sinclair’s Island; step granddaughter, Elizabeth; her sister, Helen Barter, Red Deer, Alberta. She was predeceased by two sons: Stuart and Ken; her husband, Donald; her parents: Harriett and Thurston Cooke; brothers: George, Joe, Clyde, and Donnie; sisters: Molly Cobham, Scottie Cameron and Gloria Christison.
Von will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews from both the Cooke and Fraser families. All will remember the sparkle in her blue eyes, beautiful smile and quick sense of humor. She showed such an affectionate interest in her large extended family.
Visitation Sunday 6-8 pm and Monday 1-1:45 pm, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow with a service to celebrate Yvonne’s life at 2 pm Monday, Rev. Pat Rose officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to Little Harbour Fire Department, Glen Haven Manor Recreation Fund or a charity of choice.
