It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh McIntosh Jr. on Sunday May 8, 2011 at home in Oakville, Ontario surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Florence Nova Scotia on June 29, 1926 he was the son of the late Hugh and Catherine (Dickson). Beloved husband of Rose (Baxter). Dear father of Carson and his wife Patrice and Earl and his wife Roxanne. Loving grandfather of Tanya, Ramona, Sasha, Darren and Amanda and great grandfather of Aliyah, Kyra, Karter, Aaron, Tyler and Kaylee. Hugh is remembered by his brothers John and Thomas and sisters Margaret, Ruby, Rodney, Mayaudry and Althea.
Predeceased by his parents, six brothers and three sisters. Hugh was employed as a coal miner in #3 Florence and #1 Sydney Mines and a deep sea merchant seaman. He retired from Ontario Hydro as an investigator after 19 years of service after his military career. Hugh served for 21 years 1944-1946 with the 3rd Battalion, 6th division, West Nova Scotia Regiment, 1953-1972 with Canadian Provost Corps, Military Police, 2nd Airborne Battalion (P.P.C.L.I), 1954-1955 Belgium, Germany with North American Treaty Organization (N.A.T.O), 1971 with the United Nations Peace Keeping Force (U.N.) in the island of Cyprus, Discharged in 1972 with the rank of Sergeant. Hugh was awarded C.V.S.M.---V.M.---N.A.T.O.---U.N.---CD and Paratroopers Wings.
Hugh was a veteran of W.W.II. He served in Germany and Cyprus. Life member and Past President of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 114 Oakville.
Visitation will be held at the Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre 3164 Ninth Line Oakville, Ontario on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-7 p.m. A legion funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Cremation with interment at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens.
If desired donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 114 Poppy Fund would be appreciated by the family.
