It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James Joseph “Jim” Cormier, 76 of Salt Springs on January 5th, 2018. He passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Jane (De Gruchy) Cormier.

Jim worked as a crane operator and a mill right at Trenton works before settling down in retirement with his wife Paulette of 54 years. Jim had a gentle heart which the community grew to love over the years and was always around to help out a neighbor in need. He took great pride in his property and loved puttering around in his shop ‘over home.’ When he wasn’t in the shop he was busy spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who he loved to tease, give life lessons and watch them grow up.

Jim will be dearly missed by his wife Paulette (Pitts) Cormier, Sons Leo (Tammy); Alberta, Jimmie (Lynda); Salt Springs and daughter Cynthia Cormier; Union Centre. Grandchildren Christa (Brody) Rundle, Amanda (Paul) Barnes, Justin (Shawna) Barnes, Devynn (Colton) Cormier, Dennis (Brittany) Cormier, Leo, Paul and Halle Cormier; along with great-grandchildren Bradyn, Camdyn and Kaitlyn Rundle. Jim is also survived by his Brothers Doug (Debbie); Abercrombie, David (Ann); Westville, Wayne; Little Harbour, Stephen (Janet); Little Egypt Road, sister-in-law Mildred “Pookie” Cormier; Trenton, Patsy (Glen) Grealey; Linacy, Audrey (David) Adams; Truro. Brother-in-laws, David Fillier; Churchville, Vernon (Shirley) Pitts; Lundy, John (Jean) Pitts; New Glasgow, Ian Pitts; Island East River, Gary Rumley; White Hill, along with special brother-in-law Paul Pitts of Three Brooks.

Jim was predeceased by his brother Bernie Cormier and sister-in-laws Gloria Cormier, Bunny Rumley, Essie Fillier and Sharon Pitts.

Jim is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, with visiting from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Tuesday. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 am from Saint John’s the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow, with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. Reception to follow.
