Edwin MacKay Lockhart

Lockhart, Edwin MacKay, 91, of Truro, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 7, 2018, surrounded by family at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Truro. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Harold and Alice (MacKay) Lockhart. Along with his parents he was predeceased by his sister Jessie and youngest son Allison and survived by his brother H. Allison. Ed started his love for dairy alongside his father at the Picoda Dairy in Stellarton, NS. He went for 36 years on to work for the provincial government. He was quoted saying that he had the best job in Nova Scotia. Dad enjoyed his time coaching Truro minor hockey and ladies softball. Dad had a passion for fishing, hunting, skating and camping with his family. As a member of the First United Church he often brightened the days of nursing home clients with roses and a smile. He also enjoyed doing church photography. He loved spending time grafting apple trees, tending to his roses and basking in the sun. Ed will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Joan (Aitchison) Lockhart; their children, Michael (Cyndi), Pamela (Michael) Gilroy, and Jennifer (Gary) Wallace; Duppy will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Stephanie (Avery), Jeffrey (Jenna), Laura, Jillian (Marcel), Shaun (Teresa); great-grandchildren, Patrick, Derik, Mason, Eli, Max, Ryan, Grayson, and Emersyn. Ed will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the First United Church, 771 Prince Street Truro, Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Spring interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Scotsburn, Pictou County. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory to the First United Church Restoration Fund or a charity of your choice, are welcomed. The family would like to thank the 2E nurses at the CEHHC for their care and compassion.
