John Roy Stobbs
January 5, 1931 - January 8, 2018
With a tear in the eye and heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Roy Stobbs. John passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018 at the age of 87 years. He leaves to mourn in his passing his beloved wife Shirley and six children: Charlene (Hugh), Cathy (Ronn), Charlotte (Bill), Philip (Elaine), Yvonne and Russell (Audrey). John will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Adam, Matthew, Joshua, Alexandria, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Cody, Brock, Breanne, Amanda, Ryan, Lyndsay, Kristian and 11 great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his parents: John Thomas and Blanche; his siblings and their spouses: Verda, Lloyd (Enid), Jim (Dorothy), Floyd, Harold (Esther), and Catherine (Robert); and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jack and Lottie. John grew up on the farm at Brancepeth, took his schooling at Derby and worked as a farm hand for several farmers. While working for Jack and Lottie he met the love of his life, Shirley. After a two-year courtship, they married on February 27, 1954. The children came fast and furious and were his pride and joy. Throughout John's life he worked for the Department of Highways for 37 years and was a small businessman operating both janitorial and handyman businesses. While working full time he renovated several homes including the family home. After retirement, John worked for PA Northern Bus Lines and then went back to his roots farming for Shirley’s aunt and uncle in Kinistino. In 2008 John and Shirley returned to Prince Albert. Love of children, teasing, laughing, animals (live or ornamental) and helping others characterized John's personality. Helping others was second nature to John which brought him great enjoyment. He volunteered as president of the East Hill Community Club, delivered meals on wheels, drove and accompanied people to appointments well into his 80's. We will always remember the special smile, the caring heart, the love behind the advice given to one and all, the teasing phone calls and the gum readily available. A Celebration of Life for John Roy will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2018 – 2:00 pm at Calvary United Church, 114 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK.
