HATHAWAY, Mary Christene – age 78 of Wilmot, NS passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Phyllis (Gordon) MacDonald. Mary retired as Head Nurse on the Maternity Unit from Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton after a long and distinguished career. She was a devoted hockey mom and was a member and organist of the Wilmot Baptist Church. Mary loved crafts and was especially known for her egg ornaments along with her long-time friend Jean Acker. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Greg (Janice) Hathaway, Kentville; Brian (Angela) Hathaway, Melvern Square; Kyle Hathaway (Adrienne Comeau), Moshers Corner; brothers, Wilbur (Peggy) MacDonald; Green Hill; Cameron (Josephine) MacDonald, Pleasant Valley; Stirling (Jessie) MacDonald, Union Centre; David (Annette) MacDonald, Windsor, ON and grandchildren Lydia Hathaway, Kingston; Adrian (Candace) Hathaway, Kentville; Aislyn and Michael Hathaway, both of Melvern Square; Cameron Hathaway, Moshers Corner and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John and grandson Jason John in infancy. A heartfelt thank you to Kelly Acker-Roy for all her support she has offered over the years, especially the last six months being the daughter she always wanted but never had. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation was held 6:00PM – 8:00PM Tuesday, January 2nd , 2018 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where a memorial service was held 2:00PM Wednesday, January 3rd , 2018 with Rev. Julia Howard officiating. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Private family interment was held in Wiswall Cemetery, Wilmot.
