With deep sadness, we regret to announce the sudden passing of our son, brother, uncle and friend Derrick Francis Dove of Sydney Mines on January 10, 2018. He was born on July 8, 1961 in Sydney Mines and passed at his home in Sydney Mines.
Derrick worked at Nickerson's Fish Plant many years ago as well as at other jobs through the years. He was an avid hunter that bagged many a moose and deer as well as an avid fisherman in summer and winter. He could be found in Middle River walking up to the Red Banks or sitting around the campfire enjoying a beer and a laugh. Derrick would always welcome you into his home for a delicious scoff that he was cooking or for a cup of tea or coffee. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand.
He was predeceased by his father, Gerald Francis Dove; paternal grandparents, William and Mary (MacGean) Dove; maternal grandparents, Henry and Madeline (Mulley) Maxwell; uncles, William Dove and Adrian Dove, and aunts, Sally (Don) Freudenberg, Joyce (Martin) Plumstead, Susan Maxwell and Margie Dove.
He is survived by his mother, Elaine (Maxwell) Dove; brothers, Wayne, Calgary, AB, Brian (Nancy), Middle River, Michael and Adrian, at home; one sister, Michelle (Woody) Elkhart, Texas, and one nephew, Michael, Calgary, AB. He is also survived by aunts, Dellie Dove, Sydney Mines, Jeanne Matthews, North Sydney and Caroline Maxwell, Sydney, as well as many cousins, great aunts, great uncles and friends.
Cremation will take place at a later date under the direction of Jobes Funeral Home Sydney Mines, and there will be no service at Derrick's request.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
