It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Maureen Marie Adrianne Nicholas, 22, on January 16, 2018 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Sydney she was the daughter of the late Adrian Francis and Margaret Ann Nicholas. She was in her third year at Cape Breton University working toward her Bachelor of Arts with aspirations of becoming an educator. Maureen was a free spirit, she made friends wherever she went and knew how to bring life and humor into any situation. She enjoyed being with family and friends, never having a bad word to say about anyone. Maureen had a great love of music. She was a member of the group, One In Spirit and a member of the Cursillo Movement. She is survived by grandparents, Hazel (Ryan) Googoo; Anne Marchand and John Jones Jr. ; siblings, Tyson Francis, Kyra Matthews, Aveyah Sage Francis, Pelonik Francis, all of Membertou; Evan Dennis, Eskasoni, Roman Michael Francis, Eel Ground; Jacob Francis, Manitoba; godchild, Kaydence; godparents, Jeffrey Nicholas and Florence Googoo and chosen grandparents, George and Laura Paul; her beloved Ta Ta Sean and Mommy Jessica and best friends, Breanne, Susie Jane, Kalo, Raylene, Kyanne and Garyjij, by her music teacher and friend, Lisa Munro and by numerous aunts, uncles, and extended family. She was predeceased by great grandmothers, Margaret Francis and Agnes Nicholas; great grandfather Clarence Knockwood; great uncle Peter Francis; great aunt Margaret Marshall and great grandparents John (Dorothy) Jones Sr.
Visitation for Maureen Nicholas will begin at 10 a.m. at 137 Spencer’s Lane, Eskasoni on Sunday, January 21. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating. A second visitation will begin on Tuesday after 2 p.m. at 64 Old Band Office Rd., Chapel Island. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, January 25 at 11a.m. at Kateri Chapel in Chapel Island with Fr. Antolin Asor officiating.
