R.G. Douglas Oulton

R.G. Douglas Oulton, born October 10, 1955 to the late Emeline and Ralph Oulton of Jolicure, NB, died peacefully in Halifax on January 20, 2018, at the age of 62, with his loving wife, Pam, by his side.
Douglas graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree. He went on to complete his Bachelor of Business Administration at UNB- Saint John campus in 1981.
He was sincerely committed to his community, serving on the Sackville Town Council as councillor, deputy mayor, and acting mayor. He was instrumental in founding the Marshwinds Housing Co-op and the Sackville Waterfowl Park. He was also actively involved in the Kinsmen Club, and the Sackville United Church, where he contributed to several committees and was a passionate member of the church choir. He was proudly honored with the Citizen of the Year Award by the Sackville community.
He enjoyed playing many sports including basketball, rugby, table tennis, hockey, golf and baseball. His keen interest in genealogy and love of his family’s history led him to organize the Oulton Reunion which drew participants from throughout Canada. Before retiring in 2005, he enjoyed success in various roles throughout his career, during which he held positions in systems and finance both in the Sackville NB and Amherst NS areas. He remained active in retirement, especially through his involvement with the Parkinson’s Society. His love of singing motivated him to help create a choir at Shannex-Parkstone with his many beloved friends there.
Douglas lived courageously with Parkinson’s for 18 years. Because of his deep hope that a cure for Parkinson’s will one day be found, it was his wish that his body be donated for medical research. Douglas and his family have been so grateful for all those who have walked this journey with them- professionals, community members, dear friends, all countless in number. Each has been a blessing.
Douglas loved his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Frederick. He is survived by Pam (Dewar) the love of his life and his wife of 39 years, as well as his children Christian (Jenny), Rebecca, Sarah (Patrick) and Nathan, and his grandchildren Olivia, Catherine, and Emeline (Christian and Jenny).
