The late Llewellyn (Lew) Crane, passed peacefully at home in Corner Brook, NL, on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at the age of 85 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife Edwina of 57 years; daughters: Colleen Humphries (Brent) and Tracy Crane (Paul Pomeroy) of Corner Brook; son Steven (Yelena) of Greenville, South Carolina; beloved grandchildren: Ellie and Matthew; sisters: Beatrice McLaughlin and Florence Mullin; and sister-in-law Robina Crane. He also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews, and cousins, who he was very close to, as well as a wide circle of friends, former work colleagues, and special neighbors. Lew was predeceased by his parents Henley and Elizabeth Crane; sisters: Anne and Louise; brothers: Gordon and Albert; and baby Donald. Lew was born in Harbour Grace, NL, on October 12th, 1932. After graduating high school, he went on to work for 43 years with the federal government, beginning with the Department of National Defence, then on to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, first as a fishery officer, then becoming Inspection Supervisor for the west coast and the District Protection Officer in charge of the Conservation and Protection Program. He loved his work, especially travelling around Newfoundland and meeting the men and women in the fishing industry, for whom he had the utmost respect, as well as spending time with his co-workers. After retiring in 1994, he continued to enjoy travelling and he especially loved spending time at his cottage in Harbour Grace. Lew will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit, stories and jokes. He loved meeting and connecting with people and seemed to always know someone, wherever he went. At Lew’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation for family & friends will be held at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9pm, with the funeral service to be held at the Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 2pm with Major Frank Johnson officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. A reception will be held at 485 Griffin Drive afterwards, with all welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Western Memorial Hospital Foundation and/or the Canadian Cancer Society. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Peter Callahan, and the nurses and doctors in the chemotherapy and palliative care units, as well as his community health nurse Dwayne.
