In her 95th year, Dorothy Livingston of Brooklyn and Long Island, NY passed away peacefully on January 31, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Born in Glace Bay and raised in Sydney, she was the oldest of four children of the late Florence (Edwards) and Frederick Dolan. After graduating Holy Angels Convent in Sydney, Dorothy enrolled in Saint Joseph’s Nursing School in Glace Bay where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. Her days at Saint Joseph’s were always so fondly remembered as were her days working as a RN in the delivery room of St. Rita’s Hospital and the Royal Avenue Hospital in Sydney. In 1951 she married William J. Livingston in Big Bras d’Or and relocated to Brooklyn, NY where she spent the next 60 years. Dorothy was an active and dedicated participant in Harvard University’s Nurses Healthy Study since 1976. A devoted mother and grandmother, Dorothy’s life revolved around her family and she be sorely missed forever.
She is survived by her loving children, Stuart (Mary) of Massapequa Park, NY and Sharon (Jim) of West Babylon, NY; adored grandchildren, Ashley (Brad), Rebecca, Dana and Elizabeth; special great grandson, Caleb; loving sister-in-law, Cathy Dolan of Sydney along with many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill; and loving siblings, Dr. F. Gerard Dolan (Dorothy), Edna Daly (James) and Eric Dolan.
There will be no visitation or services at the present time.
A memorial service will be held at a later this year in Big Bras d’Or, Cape Breton.
