Reverend Wayne Joseph McCarthy

Born In: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
Passed on: June 26th, 2009

Reverend Wayne Joseph McCarthy died peacefully Friday, June 26, 2009, at the age of 57 and in his 31st year of the priesthood.
Wayne grew up in North Sydney, a former parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, where he served on the altar knowing his dedication in life would be the vocation of serving the Lord.
Wayne was the cherished son of the late John McCarthy and Lorina, who is now residing in Dartmouth. He was the loving and caring brother of Brian (Donna), Jacqueline Duggan (Stan), Dale (Karen), Keith (Josie) and Wanda Pye (Ronnie). Also left to mourn him are nieces, Laura, Kristen, Pamela; and nephews, Gregory, Brett. He was the treasured great uncle of Sarah and Andrew.
Wayne was ordained a priest on April 28, 1979, at St. Michael’s Church in Coburg, Ont. and served God in many different parishes after that.
Father Wayne’s Mass of the Resurrection was held at St. Peter’s in Chains Cathedral in Peterborough, Ont., June 29, 2009, where he was associate pastor 1979-1980 and Rector 1995-2001.
After meeting with numerous former parishioners of Wayne the family realized that they loved him for his acts of kindness, his wonderful advice, his sense of humour and his dedication to all. Wayne was a reflection of his parents love. Always loving his return visits home to Cape Breton, spending time with mom and dad and many friends watching the waves of the ocean at sunset, eating blueberry grunt, enjoying Celtic music, and sharing stories of our childhood, Wayne was truly a Cape Breton son.
Waynes final wishes were to be brought home, therefore his memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. His final resting place will be beside dad in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made, if you wish to do so, to the Canadian Cancer Society who were so very kind and compassionate to Wayne throughout his brief illness.
You ask how long we love and miss him? - Forever
