Vincent Andrew Muise

Passed on: February 9th, 2018

With heavy but grateful hearts, we share the loss of our husband, father and grandfather, Vincent Andrew Muise of Sydney River. Vince, a man who lived well, loved much and was much loved in return passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2018 at the age of 87.
Vince is survived by, Georgina (Georgie), his loving wife of 61 yrs.; and his sons, Cyril (Nora) of Dartmouth, Colin (Shauna) of Greenwood, NS, Lawrence (Elaine) of Cole Harbour, NS, Lloyd (Hazel) of Sherwood Park, AB and Tom (Shelley) of Woodstock, NB. Vince was a loving grandfather to Erica, Josh, Emmett, Cassie, Megan, Rebecca, Luke, Brianne, Hugh, Joel, Allison, Evan and Victoria along with five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Levi, Nora, Adam and Hayden. He is also survived by his brother, Nelson and sisters-in-law, Marg and Jeanette.
Vince was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Amelia; sister, Vi and brothers, Eddie, Clarence, Gerry, Raymond, Joe and Bob.
Family came first for Vince but Little League baseball was a pretty close second. He coached Little League baseball for 52 years and is fondly remembered by generations of young ballplayers as a positive influence on how to play the game and live life. As a recognition of his dedication, the home field of the Sydney River Cardinals became the Vince Muise Field in 1999. Vince is a two-time inductee into the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame as a builder in 2007 and again in 2016 as Manager of the 1972 Canadian Little League Champions. He quite simply loved the game and helping young people to be good players and citizens.
When not coaching, taking care of his family or working at the Steel Plant, Vince loved to go fishing with the boys, cheering on the Screaming Eagles and helping his community on various committees. He was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish serving on the parish council for several years as well being member of KOC MM Coady Council 9476. He was a genuinely all round wonderful person and will be sadly missed by his family, friends, the local baseball community and all who knew him.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jackson, Dr. Myatt, Dr. Shariff and all the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre who took wonderful care of Vince over the last several years.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney, NS.
Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 15, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating followed by a reception at the Parish hall.
Family flowers only so to honour Vince’s request donations can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Care unit or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
