Joseph Bruce "Joe" Taylor – 70, of Kingsport, Kings County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 14, 2018 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Archibald “Joe" and Dorothy (Rogers) Taylor. Joe attended NSCC, Kingstec Campus in Kentville and graduated as a draftsman, working for L. E. Shaw in Dartmouth before returning to the Valley to take a position as typesetter with the Kentville Advertiser. Attracted by the autonomy and joy of traveling, he became an owner, operator of his own trucking business, enjoying the friends he made and places he visited for over 40 years. He contracted with various trucking companies in the Annapolis Valley, including Connors Diesel, New Minas; G.K. Morse Trucking, Centreville and A-1 Ready Mix, Kentville. For a number of years, he operated with long-haul companies and travelled and worked across the U.S. Joe is survived by his partner, Barbara (Dempsey) Lutz and her family; a son, Charles “Chuck” Taylor (Athena Herrmann), Toronto; grandchildren, Ava and Lily; son-in-law, Vance Purvis; grandchildren, Cynthia, Rick, Jesse and a great-grandson, Xander, Washington and Oregon; sister, Joanne (Richard) Harvey, Kingsport; niece, Jane and nephew, Rick. Besides his parents, he was predeceased in 2016 by his daughter, Colleen Purvis. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2018, in the Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport, Reverend Mike Veenema officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Medford Cemetery, Kings County. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice.
