Ernest "Ernie" MacLean

It is with heavy hearts we, the family announce the sudden passing of Ernest MacLean on Feb. 13, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Ernie was a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor. Born and raised in Sydney, he was a son of the late Leila and Sandy MacLean. He was an avid bowler playing on a competitive bowling team for a time as well as a member of Spanish River Dart Assoc. Ernie worked at Eaton’s for 15 years and moved to Woolco/Walmart for almost 30 years. Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Claras MacLean; daughters, Wanda (Allan) Walsh, Lisa Delong and son, Alex (Jennifer) MacLean, as well as his 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Aidan, Hannah and Maya, and his sister Lois Ross who all loved him very much. Besides his parents, Ernie is predeceased by his sister, Sylvia and his brother, John. A special thanks to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital staff on 4B and the Palliative Care Team on 4E, as well as Dr. Paul Murphy. Your professionalism and compassion was second to none. At his request there will be no visitation. A Celebration of his Life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in the S. W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney with Rev. Thomas Whent to officiate. A reception with the family will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
