Wilbert "Byron" Lynds

Wilbert "Byron" Lynds

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Byron, 58, announce his passing on February 14, 2018 after a brief illness at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Byron was the son of the late George and Lina (Watson) Lynds. He was well known in the Sydney River community; driving his bike and trailer, collecting bottles and hanging out at Tim Horton’s, also known as his office. He was a polite man who lived a simple life and was a friendly giant to all he met. In Byron’s younger years, he worked as a truck driver throughout Canada. He often spoke of fond memories from his time working in Rainbow Lake. In recent years, he enjoyed going to Crossroads and attending the dances there.
Byron is survived by nieces, Kelly Matthison (Colin), Nikki Kokocki, Krista McPhee (James); great-nephews Micah, Ethan Andrew and great-nieces Naomi and Chloe and extended family. He also leaves behind close friends Louis and Judy MacKinnon, and Dave and Wendy MacPhail.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Kokocki (Carmen). Visitation will be Monday, February 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with funeral service being held Tuesday, February 20 at 2 p.m. at SW Chant & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
Donations in memory of Byron can be made to Crossroads or to Palliative Care. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.chantfuneralhome.ca. “To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.” Funeral arrangements under the direction of SW Chant & Sons Funeral Home.
