William Joseph DeLeskie

The death of widely respected Sydney resident, William (Bill) DeLeskie, occurred at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 17, 2018.
A son of the late James and Anne (Harper) DeLeskie Sr., he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty Sampson) DeLeskie; his daughter, Catherine (Mario) Minguy; his step-granddaughter, Stephanie (Mike) Blair and their four children; his son, Jason (Jenn) DeLeskie; grandson, Jacob Deleskie, and two step-grandsons, Kyle and Riley. He is also survived by his two sisters, Jane (David) Jessome and Sheila (Bill) Windsor; sister-in-law, Elsie DeLeskie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by eldest son, William (Billy Jr.), and his brothers, Jimmy, Ronald, Donald DeLeskie and infant twin brothers. His step-mother, Maisie, also predeceased him.
Mr. D as he was affectionately called, taught math at Park Jr. High for 31 years before accepting early retirement. While at Park, he was heavily involved in coaching the girls and boys basketball and soccer teams and almost every other sport they had at varying times.
Bill was very involved in his church and community. An adherent of St. Theresa’s Parish, he was a lector for many years. He was an active member of the Sydney Knights of Columbus, Council 1060 and was a former Grand Knight as well as a 4th Degree member. He was also a member of the Sydney Pensioners Club.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 22 at St. Theresa’s Church with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. A reception will take place at St. Theresa’s Hall following the Mass. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to a charity of choice.
