John Ernest Fagan

It's with great sadness, we the family of John Ernest Fagan 55 of Foxbrook, announce the sudden passing on February 15, 2018 at home. Born in Springhill he was the son of the late Mabel (Berry) and late Ernest Fagan.
John started his first job at the age of 16 with Chapman Brothers, Amherst, NS bottling and delivering pop. He then moved to Grande Cashe, Alberta and worked in the underground coal mines as a miner. He returned to Nova Scotia resumed employment with Chapman Brothers. In 1986 we moved to Etobicoke, Ont where he would spend 4 years working at Coatings 85 in Mississauga, Ont. coating car parts for GM. We moved back to Nova Scotia to raise our family, moving to Westville in October 1991 to work at Westray Coal Mine as an underground coal miner until the explosion in May 1992, where he was bare face rescue. John received a medal of bravery in 1994 for his rescue efforts in Westray. John was diagnosed with PTSD later in the 90's. We chose to stay in Pictou County and raise our family. John returned to NSCC and received a diploma in Academic 12 and Cabinet Carpentry. He worked for Jamieson's Upholstery and the Trenton Works from 1998-2006, John then went to work at Big 8 Beverages in Stellarton from 2006 to present, full circle back to bottling pop/water. John was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and will be missed and loved forever. John was known for always wanting to help and would give you the shirt off his back. He had a passion for fishing and boating.
John will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 28 years Wendy (Noiles) Fagan, son Ryan (Kate Skinner) Amherst, daughter Brittania at home with his grandson to be born next week and a loving dog Doakes. Sisters Jean Porter (Ron) Oxford, Barb Snowden (Roy) Springhill, Donna Poplar Wasson (Warren) Deerfield, NH, Nicole, Alberta. Brothers Randy, Ontario, Peter, Ontario, Phillip, Alberta, Doug (Sharon) Hillsborough, NB and Darrell (Angie), River Hebert, NS. Along with his aunts, uncles, numerous niece, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sisters Linda Grant, Louise Gouchie Kerr and Cathy Fagan.
Visitation will take place on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 2:00 pm with Father Craig Christenson presiding from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst. A time of sharing and refreshments will follow in the parish hall.
Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the PTSD Association of Canada.
