It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend, Billie, on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born in Ingonish on August 29, 1930, he was the son of the late James and Mary Grace (Doyle) Barron. Billie spent his entire life in the community. He was the skipper of the Cape Queen and he fished with the Crow’s Nest Trap Company, his family’s business, for many years. A skilled carpenter, he worked at Cabot High School, the Lone Shieling, Public Works, the Keltic Lodge and he did maintenance work at the Glenghorm Resort for twenty years before retiring. Billie was a good community member and volunteered at St. Peters Catholic Church. He enjoyed card games, visiting friends, the folks at the nursing home, listening to Celtic music and attending concerts. He cherished the company of his two cats, Patches and Key. Feeding the birds and ducks gave him great pleasure.
Billie is survived by his brothers, Emerson, Isadore, Francis (Peggy), Mickey (Carolyn), and Gordon (Valerie); sisters, Evelyn Egan, Alice (Sinclair) Lewis, Agnes (Fred) Doucette, Barbara (Ken) Donovan, and Kathleen (Melvin) Gwynn; plus many nieces and nephews.
