Jean was a member of UCW, Rebecca Lodge and Choirs in Lorneville and Dundee, Cape Breton. In 1971 Jean and Gerald moved their family to Dundee in Cape Breton where they enjoyed many trips up the Black River and made many wonderful friends. The last move took them to Truro, a central location. Jean especially enjoyed the many camping trips and bonfire singalongs.
