We, the family of Michael Carbery, regret to announce his passing on Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike worked as a general labourer in Ontario for many years, before retiring to Sydney Mines in 1980.
He was a kind, gentle man who loved to volunteer his musical talents in hospitals, nursing homes, at Indian Beach, and with his friends at the campground.
Mike is survived by his loving, caring wife and best friend, Amy (Ginter) Carbery; sisters, Francis Schwartz and Margaret Cornick, both of Vancouver, and his very special niece, Mary Emma Pero.
His family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Michel McKeough, Louise McKeough, Dr. Naqui, Dr. MacMillan, Bernice and Wanda from the Wound Clinic at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and the staff of 5th Floor, Northside General Hospital. Very special thanks to 4 West, VON, and EHS Paramedics.
Cremation has taken place as per Mike’s wishes. His family will receive visitors in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main St., Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at 10 a.m. A celebration of his life will take place at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to Palliative Care or a charity of one’s choice.
