KELLY GERARD MACDONALD

Kelly Gerard MacDonald, (a.k.a. the Rock), aged 53, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 2, 2018 at the QEII Hospital, following a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Born in Ironville, Cape Breton, NS, he was the son of the late Colin and Alice (Ferguson) MacDonald. Kelly was a much-loved husband, father and brother. He graduated from UNB and worked in the food service industry in both NS and NB; ending his career as SYSCO District Sales Manager for NE – NS. He was passionate about his team, that he felt was “the best”. Kelly enjoyed music and played in several bands over the years. Playing the piano and composing music was his hobby and he loved collaborating with other musicians. He was community minded and donated his time and talents willingly. Kelly was an avid hockey fan of the Montreal Canadians. Kelly is survived by Kelli, his loving wife of 28 years, and his 3 children, Erin, Sara and Ryan, of whom he was very proud. Also, sisters, Elaine (Kevin) MacLellan of Sydney, Patricia (David) Garey of Saint John, Brenda (David) Naugler of Dartmouth, Karen (Ken) Mortimer of Rothesay and brothers, Colin (Kay) of Cambridge, Ron (Carol) and Kevin of Edmonton; sister-in-law, Marilyn MacDonald; as well as many nieces and nephews. Kelly was predeceased by his brother, David. Special thanks to the staff of the QEII Hospital where Kelly spent much of his last 2 years. He appreciated your care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, Kelly wished that people consider a blood donation, joining the Bone Marrow Registry or a donation to the Leukemia – Lymphoma Society. Kelly always lit up the room and he will be dearly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Saturday March 10, 2018 at St. Andrews Church, Boisdale, Cape Breton. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service with a reception to follow at the Boisdale Fire Hall.
