Hector Peori

Passed on: March 1st, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hector Peori on March 1, 2018 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility. Hector was born on July 26, 1926 to the late Pasquala and Catherine (MacDonald) Peori. Dominion was his home where he raised his family and made many great friends.
Hector was a caring, helpful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family throughout the years, whether it was camping trips on the Cabot Trail, playing poker with his brothers or trips to his secret fishing spots. As he aged, keeping up with his grandchildren kept him young. His grandchildren cherished their time together, as they knew “Poppy” would do anything he could for them. He was the type of man who was always there to help others and he acted like a father to everyone.
Hector was a devoted coal miner for 44 years and made many friends along the way. In his early days, he enjoyed playing hockey for the Glace Bay Junior Miners. His love of hockey continued with his lifelong devotion to his beloved Maple Leafs. Maybe this year, the Leafs could win the Stanley Cup in his memory.
Besides his parents, Hector was predeceased by his loving wife, Janie (Burns) in 2012; brothers, Arneldo, Frank, Ronald, Anthony, Daniel and William, and sisters, Cecilia, Concileo, Jean, Theresa and Carmelita.
He is survived by his daughter, Yvonne and son-in-law, John Kennedy and their children, Ian, Todd and Melissa and grandchildren, Cynthia and Gibson; his son, Hector and daughter-in-law, Georgina and their children, Denise and Jamie and grandchildren, Sophia, Keegan, Emrick and Ella; his son, Arneldo and daughter-in-law, Valerie and children, Brad and Aaron; his daughter, Rita and son-in-law, Allan Hawco and their children, Andrew and Lindsay; his daughter, Patricia Peori and son-in-law, Francis Funari. He is also survived by his brother, Louis (Carmel) in Ontario.
Our heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. Mark Elleker and his staff for the excellent care Hector received over the years. He enjoyed his time at Steel Worker’s Lane, where the staff treated him like family. We will be forever grateful for their kindness.
Funeral service will be held on March 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church in Dominion. A reception will follow in the church basement.
In lieu of flowers, we are hoping that people would do an act of kindness in Hector’s memory.
