We, the family of Wilfred McNeil Jr., are saddened to announce his passing on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital 4 North. He fought a long hard battle against Parkinson and Corticobasal Degeneration. Born in Kentville on October 19, 1956, he is the eldest son of Wilfred Sr. and Ulean (Pheifer) McNeil.
He started his professional career with Devco, while continuing his education at UCCB and Dalhousie University, completing four different degrees. He chose his next profession as a social worker for the Department of Community Services, working out of Guysborough County for 12 years. His primary goal was to assist young adults in completing their education and proudly attended many of their graduations.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda (Gillis) McNeil; son, Jess and grandson, Aidon; sisters, Shirley (Dave), Raylean, Roberta (Doug), and brother, Billy (Lois). He is also survived by in-laws, Charles (PeeWee) and Shirley (Nicolson) Gillis, and brothers-in-law, Mel (Patsy), Danny, Les and Shane (Debbie).
He was predeceased by his son, Chad in 2005.
His greatest love was his grandson Aidon, followed by a close second was his Harley.
The family wish to extend their thanks for all the care and support during his hospitalization, to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital 4B and Glace Bay Hospital 4N. A heartfelt thank you to doctor's Oei, Shimon and Boutilier as well as other specialists in the field. A special thank you to everyone who went above and beyond, you know who you are.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2 p.m. followed by a chapel service at 3 p.m. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. A reception will be held at the parish hall, Convent Street. Burial will take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
