The death occurred peacefully with family by his side at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 of Thomas Carew of Summerside, aged 78 years. Tom was born in St. John’s, Nfld.to the late Thomas and Annie (nee Picco) Carew. Beloved husband of Janet (nee Arsenault) Carew and loving father of Shelley (Daryle) Nicholson of Kensington, P.E.I., Gregory (Penelope) of Ottawa, ON. and Bruce (Abbigail) of Dartmouth, N.S. Also lovingly remembered by his 4 grandchildren Cody MacIntyre of Ellerslie, Cortney Atwell- Carew of Halifax, N.S., James Carew of Whistler, B.C. and Natalie Carew of Ottawa, ON., great grandchildren Quinn, Bryer and Nora (Kayla and Cody) MacIntyre of Ellersie. Survived by his sisters Madeline (Bill) Heffernan, Charlotte (Brian) O’Rielly, brother Brendan (Rita), sisters in-law Pat and Marion Carew, brother in-law Kevin Heffernan, cousins Berniece (Leo) Puddester, Mary Carey, Donna O’Brien of Bay Bulls, Nfld. along with numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his brothers Calvin, Patrick (Flora), Harold, sisters Josephine Heffernan, Gertrude (John) Heffernan and Margaret (Sooley). Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Wednesday, March 14th, then to St. Paul’s Church, Summerside for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place later in the church cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tom’s memory to the Parkinson Association, Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care Unit Prince County Hospital would be greatly appreciated. Visitation hours on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 6 - 7:30 p.m. Members of Hiram & Lebanon Masonic Lodge # 3, Summerside will hold a Memorial Service at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. All brethren are invited to attend. Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 5, Summerside and members of the 200 Summerside Wing will hold a Legion service on Tuesday afternoon at 1:45 p.m. Special thank you to East Prince Palliative Home Care and Palliative Care Unit PCH.
