Mary Leanor "Lee" MacDougall

Mary Leanor ‘Lee’ MacDougall, 89, passed peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimers on the 11th of March 2018 at Northwood Ivany Place in Bedford. Lee was born November 5, 1928 in Sydney Mines to the late Peter and Mary Ann (Scott) MacKinnon and was the last member of her immediate family; brothers; Howard, Thomas, Alfred and sisters, Florence, Patricia and Myrtle. Lee was predeceased by the love of her life, best friend and husband Hector ‘Hec’ and daughter-in-law, Frances.
She leaves her memories to be cherished by her sons, Doug (Joan), Glace Bay, Glenn (Sandra), Lower Sackville, Brent (Helen), Bedford; her granddaughters, Kimberley Aitken, Dr. Kristin MacDougall, her grandsons, Scott and Brett and her great granddaughters who gave her much joy; Tara, Emma, Nyla, Sophia, Lexi and Brielle. Also left to mourn are sisters-in-law, Hazel MacDougall and Mary Woodill, closest friend Jenny O’Callahan and many special nieces and nephews.
Lee worked at MacLeod’s Bookstore for over 25 years. Lee’s favorite times were spending her summers at the bungalow in Bras D’or with family. Her other passions were reading, going for a little walk, and travelling. She traveled to many places with her husband Hec and in later years traveled with her sons and their families. She especially enjoyed the trip to Boston with family to see her granddaughter Kristin graduate as a Medical Doctor. Lee was a big sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching curling and saw many a game in most of the curling rinks in Nova Scotia and elsewhere in Canada. The family would like to thank all those who cared for her at Blueberry Hills section of Ivany Place. Per her request, she was cremated. Celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, Sydney with celebrant Andrew Chapman. Reception to follow at the Sydney Curling Club, 619 George Street.
