Elroy "Roy" Henry Sheriff

With deep sorrow we, the family of Elroy "Roy" Henry Sherriff, 76 years of age, of Amherst and formerly of South Brook, announce his peaceful passing on March 6, 2018 at Gables Lodge.
Born in Springhill on April 1, 1941, he was a son of the late Harold and Clara (Brown) Sherriff.
In his younger years he worked with his father in the logging industry and then moved to Winnipeg where he worked as a welder for Shopost Ironworks Ltd. On his return, he was employed at Robb's Engineering for 30 years.
Roy enjoyed hunting and was an avid sports fan following the games of his favorite teams, Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. He amazed everyone with his ability to remember players' names and statistics. If you knew him well, you knew he liked fancy cars and clothes.
He is survived by his daughter, Charmaine Sherriff; his sisters, Sharon (Doug) Schiefer, Etta (Bill) Briand, Valerie (Ed) Dobson, brother, Alton (Shirley); numerous nieces and nephews; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and his special friend, Rhonda Gallagher. Being an animal lover, Roy will also be missed by his cat, Sam (aka Big Orange).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Harold Jr. and sister Donna.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the VON who cared for Roy. They would also like to thank the staff and caregivers at CRHCC, Amherst with special thanks to Jeff, the desk nurse on the medical unit. Finally, another thank you to the staff at Gables Lodge for their wonderful care during Roy's final days.
Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). At Roy's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Committal will be at a later date.
If so desired, donations in Roy's memory may be made to the Diabetes Association of Nova Scotia, the L. A. Animal Shelter or to the charity of choice.
Condolences and sharing of memories may be sent to the family by visiting Roy's online memorial at www.brownsfuneralhome.com or through the A. H. Brown Funeral Home Facebook Page.
