Myrtle Edith (Crowell) Fortner – 83, of Kentville, peacefully passed away Monday, March 19, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born at home in Hortonville, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late James and Etta (Feener) Crowell. Myrtle moved to Kentville where she raised her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and a special friend to many. She had been employed with Maritime Tel and Tel for 30 years, from where she retired. She is survived by six children, Gordon (Jacqueline) Fortner, Fredericton, NB; Barbara (Michael) Fortner-Hull, Bridgewater; Donna Fortner-Bigelow, (Donald Gosbee), Jordan Falls; James “Jim” Fortner (Missy Smyth), North Alton; Kenneth “Ken” (Beverlee) Fortner, Cambridge; David (Lisa) Fortner, South Alton; two sisters, Elaine Crowell (Larry Atwell), Wolfville; Sherry-Lee (David) Shepherd, Black Rock; two brothers, Douglas (Celia), Hortonville; John (Peggy), New Minas; sister-in-law, Sylvia Crowell, Hortonville; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Maynard “Jake”. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018, Reverend Virginia DeAdder officiating. Burial took place in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Lower Horton Cemetery, the Lower Horton Community Hall, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice. Please note that all services at the funeral home will be held in a scent-free environment. Special thanks to Dr. Targett, nurses and staff at Orchard Court for your kindness, care and compassion.
