It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, brother, uncle and friend, Hugh Michael Taylor, 61, on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born and raised in Florence on May 3, 1956, Hugh was the son of the late John Roderick and Rachel Anne (Edwards) Taylor.
Hugh was a member of the Florence Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Florence Men’s Club for many years. With a keen interest in genealogy, he enjoyed hunting with his brothers, music, and was an avid weight lifter and runner in his early years. He had a big heart and will be remembered by all for his strong faith, great sense of humour, fine taste in unique cuisine, colorful phrases, record collection, and cheering on his favourite team, the one and only Chicago Blackhawks.
Hugh is survived by his daughters, Rachel Anne and Alice; his partner, Yvonne Bryan and sister-in-law, Sharon (Duckie)MacLeod. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Brenda (Bernard) Green, James (Vicky), Raymond (Donna), Evelyn (Mike) Holland, Harry (Florence), Ann Marie (Paul) O’Handley, Joe (Bernadette), Stuart (Adelaide), Brian (Brenda), and Raylene LeDrew (Wade Strowbridge); good friend, Cecil Jackson; godmother, Isabel Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John Roderick Jr., sister-in-law, Coline Taylor, and godfather, Jamie Taylor.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Northside General Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and the Miner’s Memorial Manor.
Visitation for Hugh Taylor will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating.
The burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Florence, at a later date.
A reception will be held in St. Stephen’s Community Hall, 34 Pitt St., Florence, following the service.
Donations in Hugh’s memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton regional Hospital, or a charity of one’s choice.
