MERIGOMISH – Joan M. (Cooke–Harris) Fulton, 78, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Merigomish, passed away, Monday, April 9, 2018 in the Villa, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Marjorie (Ellis) Harris. After graduating high school in Liverpool, she worked as a secretary in Ottawa, then returned to Liverpool, working for the Department of Lands and Forests. Following her marriage to Albert they lived several years in Bedford, and later made their farm in Merigomish their home.
Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker, avid gardener and excellent seamstress. She enjoyed dancing, curling and playing cards with her grandchildren, sharing her stories with them. Joan studied Theology and helped to found the Portals of Glory Healing Ministry which held services in Trenton for almost 10 years. Joan spent many hours in the blueberry and strawberry fields on their farm, especially in her rose garden with their dog, Penny.
Joan is survived by her husband of 51 years, Albert; daughter, Cindy (Don) Gordon, Calgary; sons, Randy (Skye), Langley, B.C.; Chris (Linda), Ottawa; Jim (Amanda) Merigomish; granddaughters, Chloe, Julia, Joelle; grandsons, Luke, Chandler, Jacob, Chase, Ben; sisters-in-law, Susan Harris, Betty Fulton, Dorothy Margeson, several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Carl Cooke; brother, Ron.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Dr. Jim Shaffner officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish.
The Fulton family wish to thank the VON and staff of the Valley View Villa for the wonderful care and friendship they gave to Joan.
