LeRoy Harris "Lee" Allen

ALLEN, LeRoy Harris “Lee”, RCAF, CAF (Retired) – 85, Truro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Harvey) Allen. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley (Doyle); daughters, Suzanne (Doug Bastow), Tatamagouche; Catherine (Kevin Atkinson), Bible Hill; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Jennifer Allen, Windsor. Along with his birth parents, Lee was predeceased by his step-mother, Harriet (McCann) Allen; sister, Pamela Heindel. Lee enlisted in the RCAF in 1951 and spent 26 years in service at numerous stations in Canada and overseas. After retirement Lee commenced a second career in sales with Mic Mac Fire and Safety in Halifax. After retiring from the workforce, he joined the Army Cadets in Truro as an Instructor, rising to the rank of Captain and becoming Commanding Officer. These years of volunteer service to the cadet movement were most enjoyable for Lee and earned him the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. An active Mason for many years, he was Past Master of Masonic Lodge #43 Truro. Lee was also a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro, and a past member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, and RCAF Association. The family would like to thank the medical professionals in Intensive Care Unit at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their compassion and care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the Masonic Lodge will conduct a tribute service at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2018, followed by visitation from 6-8 p.m., all at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at St. John’s Anglican Church, 23 Church Street, Truro, The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating. Reception will follow in Kaulback Hall. Spring interment in Terrace Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Lee’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
