Joseph George Moore

Joseph George Moore of Amherst, Nova Scotia, entered into the joy of his Lord on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan. He was 94 years old.
Born in Saskatchewan, he was the only son of the late Thomas and Ann Elizabeth (Ross) Moore. He was raised on the prairies and grew up to own his own 1100 acre farm on which he raised both crops and beef cattle. He sold the farm in 1974 and moved with his family to Shinimicas. He worked as a teacher at Northport Elementary School and also for Dunlap’s Hardware Store in Amherst, NS. He moved from Shinimicas into Amherst in 2004, first living in an apartment on East Pleasant Street, then moving in 2013 to Havelock Terrace. In February, he moved into White Birches Retirement Residence.
Faith and family were the most important priorities of his life. He was a man of simple tastes. Spending time with his Bible and in prayer, as well as enjoying nature, were his favourite activities. He grew large vegetable gardens and shared the produce with others. He had a sensitive and generous spirit, and many who were going through difficult times were strengthened by his caring support.
Joseph will be missed by his children Nelia Brooks (Roland) of Hamilton, Massachusetts, Cheryl Noe (Walter) of Durham, Maine, and David Moore, Oxford, NS, as well as 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Margaret Van De Veen (with whom he had enjoyed 45 years of marriage) in 1999 and by his sister, Winifred, in 1986 and sister, Eva, in January of 2018.
A funeral will be held at 1:00 P.M., followed by a reception, on Saturday April 21st, 2018 at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church Street, Amherst, NS 902-667-9906. Internment at the Shinimicas Cemetery will follow the reception.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shinimicas Cemetery or Cumberland Hospice and Palliative Care Society.
Condolences and sharing of memories may be shared with the family via www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting Campbell’s Facebook page.
