It is with great sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Florence Elizabeth Green on April 16, 2018. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Florence born September 23, 1927 is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Green.
They shared a lifetime of happiness and raised a family of eight children daughters, Catherine (Syl) Phalen, Beverly (Bruce) Vatcher, Marlene (Leif) Morrison, Sheila (MJ) McKinnon, Lorelei (Troy) Dillon; sons, Kevin (Donna) Green and Keith (Karen) Green. Florence dearly loved her 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Florence is survived by her sister, Margaret MacKenzie.
She was predeceased by her son, Donald Green; parents, Daniel and Cassie (Holmes) MacDonald; sisters, Christine Snow and Anna MacPherson and brothers, William, George and Ronald MacDonald.
Florence loved life until the day she was called home. She was known for her big heart, great sense of humor, and ability to make people smile. She welcomed everyone to her home, was a great hostess and you never left without lunch and a cup of tea. She loved summer and spent many hours of enjoyment with Jerry in her screened porch bird watching, especially the hummingbirds.
Florence was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s United Church, where she loved to sing in the choir and belonged to the UCW. She was a life member of the Queen Victoria Rebekah Lodge #63 and served her community well.
Florence and family are grateful for the care she received from her doctors, Stephanie Ellerker, Clay Butler, and Hammad Asim as well as her homecare workers and VON. The family also extends their thanks to the nursing staff of the Glace Bay Hospital.
A funeral service celebrating Florence’s life will be held on Friday April 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Church, Donkin.
As an expression of sympathy memorials may be made to St. Luke’s United Church or a charity of one’s choice.
