Mary Catherine (Murphy) MacInnis died Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Born in Halifax and raised in Barra Head, Richmond Co., she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (MacDonald) Murphy.
The oldest of 12 children, she left home at an early age to work, caring for Bridget Langley, then continued on to care for families in the Barra Head and St. Peter’s area. At age 23, she married Michael MacInnis and moved to Loch Lomond, and later to Big Pond Centre. There, they raised 10 children and welcomed many friends into their home.
She is survived by her children, Ann (Herb) Callahan, Antigonish, Sheila (Angus) MacNeil, Houston, Texas, Anthony (Barbara), Coxheath, Martin (Marsha), Stephenville Crossing, Nfld, Roy, Big Pond Centre, Peter (Raylene), Truro, Mary MacInnis (Bob Miller), Dartmouth, Theresa (Allan) Morley, Fall River, Paula MacInnis (Brad Walker), Bedford and Maureen Campbell, Big Pond Centre; 17 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Murphy, Big Pond; sisters, Emma Cockuyt, Grand Bend, ON, and Anna Touesnard, River Bourgeois; sister-in-law, Anne MacInnis, Sydney, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael MacInnis; grandchildren, Caroline MacInnis and John Michael MacNeil; sisters, Muriel (Pete) Burley, Teresa Murphy, Frances (Bill) Bishop and Margaret (Bill) Hilton; brothers, Peter, Ernest, William and Joseph; along with her brothers-in-law, John MacInnis and Bennie (Esther) MacInnis, and sisters-in-law, Margaret (Alex) MacKinnon, Josephine (Buddy) Colwell, Betty (Roy) Morrison, Flo (Doug) MacIntyre and Kaye (Tony) Carideo.
Visitation will take place on Thursday (today), April 19 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, April 20, 2-4 and 7 -9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 at St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond, with Fr. Philiposki officiating, followed by interment at the parish cemetery, with a reception afterwards at the community hall.
