Gloria Wilson

Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia
Passed on: April 20th, 2018

Gloria Wilson, 77, of Gabarus, passed gently on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Truman and Rhodena Clark.
Gloria leaves behind her partner, John Danch; sons, Doug (Wendy) and Arthur (Rayeen); grandson, Douglas; brother, Phil (Marie); John’s daughter, Ann Marie (Colin) and family. She appreciated her extended family, especially her aunt, Althea Phillips and her daughter, Beth; cousin, Harold Clark and his daughters, Debbie and Beth, as well as Gloria’s lifelong friend, Peggy Gray.
After retiring from the Halifax Housing Authority, Gloria and John moved to Sydney where she became a proud member of the Ashby Legion Branch 138, working with veterans to honour the military service of her father and grandfather. They later built a beautiful haven on the family shores in Gabarus, enjoying the view for the past 15 years.
Gloria and her mother were instrumental in ensuring the history of Gabarus was documented for all to come, she supported all efforts to promote Gabarus, including the Lighthouse Preservation Society, and the volunteer fire department started by her father over 50 years ago. Gloria was extremely proud of her Gabarus heritage. A Mi’Kmaw quill basket given to her great-grandmother is on display in the Membertou Heritage Centre.
She fought many health issues, her most recent cancer diagnosis came five years ago. She claimed to have nine lives, and tracked her stays at An Cala by which life she was on. She truly felt the staff and volunteers of An Cala were her second family, they called her their Gloria and loved her gentle fighting spirit. She had an amazing care team, the VON, Homecare, her entire palliative team, and Dr. MacKillop, who took care of her and John for many years. Her friends and neighbours in Gabarus will always be remembered for their unwavering support and love.
Gloria loved her gardens and flowers, but would rather be remembered with a donation to her second home, An Cala Palliative Care at the CBRH, or the Gabarus Volunteer Fire Department.
She wanted a gathering of friends and family, which will be held during warmer weather when the beauty of Gabarus is better appreciated.
Arrangements under direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
