Bernice Margaret MacLeod

Bernice Margaret MacLeod (nee Curley), age 76, of Brookvale, P.E.I., passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, after a brief illness. She was born to the late Mark and Rose Curley (nee Smith) on November 5, 1941. She is survived by her sons Paul (Carolyn), Brandon, MB; Darcy (Angela), Emerald, P.E.I.; her beloved grandchildren, Connor, Alysha, Jacob and Alexander; her brothers Francis (Frank), Eugene (Gene), Damien, Bernard (Bernie), James (Jimmy) and her sisters, Josephine (Josie), Helen, Inez (Jackie), Rosemary (Frank) and Marion (George); as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Maniford (Manny) MacLeod; son, Lawrence MacLeod; her companion of many years, Brendon Costello; brother, Vernon Curley; sisters-in-law, Gail and Anne Marie; and brothers-in-law, Alec and Charlie. As well as working at the Nordic Site at Brookvale Ski Park for decades, Bernice was extremely active in the community and raised funds for numerous charities and community benefits. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Kelly’s Cross, was a dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League and a key volunteer for the annual Parish Picnic, the “Tea Party”. Bernice particularly enjoyed the weekly card games and cèilidhs at the church hall. Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, for visitation on Monday, April 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kelly’s Cross, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in Bernice’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, or P.E.I. Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
