With broken hearts we, the family of Freda Mary MacKeigan, announce her peaceful passing surrounded by her loving family, at the wonderful age of 96, on April 11, 2018.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Alice (Chaisson) Matthews.
She was a long-time member of Carman United Church. As a stay at home mom who took great pride in her family, she made the world a more beautiful place for all who knew and loved her. She looked forward to annual vacation adventures, camping with her family and in later years, expanded her destinations to parts of Europe, California and Vancouver. She was a faithful and loving wife to her husband of 72 years, a treasured mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.
Left to remember her with much love are her devoted husband, Duncan; daughters, Carolyn Dunlop (William), Riverview N.B., Patricia Canty (Jim), Cole Harbour, Judy Flemming (Dana), Brookfield, Debbie Atkinson (David), Cole Harbour; grandsons, David Dunlop (Christina), Winnipeg, Darren Dunlop (Isabelle), Montreal, Peter Atkinson, Cole Harbour, Scott Atkinson, Cole Harbour; great-grandchildren, Kyla, Brooklyn, Noah, Olivia, Charlie; sister, Ruth Reardon, Florence; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her nephew, Bud Matthews (Marjorie) of Margaree and her niece, Shirley Reardon of Florence both held a special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Carman United Church, 1 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines, followed by a reception in the church hall. Family flowers only.
