Donald ‘Chiefy’ Sampson

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Donald Sampson ‘Chiefy’ on April 30, 2018 at the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney. Born on May 23, 1934, Donald was the son of the late Simon and Marie Sampson.
Dad was a proud retired member of the 45th Field Squadron, of the Canadian Armed Forces and a proud member of the Branch 12 Legion. Following his years in the service, he was a store front mechanic, and glass maker.
Dad spent his younger years dancing and playing darts with the love of his life Morag. When he wasn’t at the Bingo hall, he was busy raising his children and making special memories with his grandchildren at the Bungalow in Irishvale. His favourite hobbies were fishing, hunting and playing the guitar in his younger years.
Donald is survived by his children, Donald (Rose) Sampson, Shelley (Jimmy) Currie, Glen (Theresa) Sampson, Morag Walzak, Kelley (Stanley) Campbell, all of Sydney, and Debbie Ashley of Vancouver, BC. He was also survived by his step-children, Stephen Boudreau, Eugene (Vivian) Boudreau, Debbie Boudreau and Dwight Boudreau. Papa was also survived by his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lastly, Donald was survived by his siblings, Alec, Ronnie, Carol, Alice and Betty, and his Bingo buddies.
Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his loving wife, Morag Sampson; step-children, Frankie Boudreau, Terry White, and special friend, Cathy.
Also predeceased by his siblings, Eddie, Dolly, Marie and Anna.
Special thank you to Chiefy’s special angel Joni Redden for all the care and laughs over the last few years. Special thank you as well to the amazing staff from Palliative Care, especially Ann Louise, his special nurse and family doctor Buhariwalla.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Donald’s life will take place Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, NS, Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Memory of Donald to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Red Cross.
