(age 87) passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Prince County Hospital on Wednesday, May 02, 2018. Desmond was born on July 18, 1930 in Miminegash, PEI the first child of Harris and Cora (Shea) Callaghan, where he was raised on the family farm. Des had a long, successful career with the Canadian National Railroad in PEI, NB and Quebec. After retirement, he returned to PEI where he has enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and being close to his family. Husband of the late Lennie (nee Betz) and Jean (nee Kelly), and father of Linda (Tom) LeBlanc, Ron (Betty) Callaghan, Patsy (George) Piercey, Norma (Terry) Walsh and Heather (Pat) Hughes. Brother to Mary Kinsella, Alice (Ray) Gazeley, Ruth Logan, Walter (Audrey) Callaghan, Eva Waller, Ann (Sherrill) Barwise. Des was the grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 10. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Lorne (infancy) and Clair, sister-in-law Ellen Mullally and brothers-in-law Bruce Kinsella, Walter Logan and Ted Waller. Resting at West Prince Funeral Home, Palmer Road with visiting hours on Sunday, May 6, from 6-8 pm. Funeral will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Palmer Road on Monday, May 7, at 2 pm.
