Norma Hooper (Carson), age 85, of Sydney River, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney River.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William “Jack” and Clara (Davis) Carson.
As a young woman, Norma worked as an operator at the telephone company’s Sydney office. She married Murray Hooper on June 18, 1952, and together, they raised six children. Norma was devoted to her family. She was blessed with a sweet disposition and never complained. She enjoyed singing immensely! Family sing alongs created a special bond that brought us together over the years. She sang in the Sydney River United Protestant Church Sr. Choir, as well as several others and was a founding member of the C.B. Chorale. Her other interests included, making crafts, oil painting, baking, cooking, sunset photography and Boisdale bonfires.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Claire (Hector Morais) Rogers; sons, Charles (Irene), Keith (Kim), Murray (Nurys) and Stephen (Marlene); sisters, Sylvia Tyrell, Marilyn Lovett and Elaine Pollett; grandchildren, Jill, Paul, Deanna, Daniel, Cheryl, Charles, Kyle, Mark, Grant, Vanessa, Murray, Colin, David, Michael, Peggy; great-grandchildren, Nalin, Rowan, Iris, Leo, Marosa, Taya, Deja, Amari, Anna, Owen, Henry, Gabriella, Emily. Norma will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Murray after 65 years of marriage; son, Ross; infant granddaughter, Allison; daughter-in-law, Deborah Hooper; brother, Ron and son-in-law, Dell Rogers.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 7, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel.
A service in celebration of Norma’s life will take place Tuesday, May 8 at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment will take place in Alfred Smith Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Society or Charity of Choice.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Harbourstone for taking such good care of Norma.
