Floyd Collier

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Floyd Collier, 6 Margaret St., North Sydney, on May 6, 2018 at An Cala Palliative Care Unit, CB Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney Mines he was the only son of the late William and Genevive (Burchell) Collier.
He is survived by wife, Marie (Rollins); daughters, Nancy Smith, North Sydney, Donna Marie Collier Jessome, Little Pond, Barbara Rollins, New Waterford and Brenda House, Elmsdale; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian (Gus Walsh), Sydney Mines; two step sisters; one step brother, and two nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian Mary (Scott) Collier; children, Wayne, James, Vivian and an infant son; sister, Beatrice Spence, Montreal; three step brothers; two nephews; two nieces, and one grandson.
Floyd served in the Second World War with the Merchant Marines, sailing on various Norwegian ships. He received various medals for his service and was awarded two medals from the king of Norway. He was a past member of Breton Branch #8, Sydney Mines and Legion Branch #19, North Sydney, also a member of the Merchant Navy Association.
Floyd had worked in Princess Colliery #1 for 22 years and North Sydney Marine Railway prior to retirement.
He was an avid fisherman, particularly fly-fishing, where he tossed out the line for many years while salmon fishing the rivers of Margaree. He enjoyed boating, dancing, reading was a passion for him.
Known as Pop AKA Daboo, not only to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren but also to their friends. He was an artisan of poetry and painting and crafted many boats by hand. He had a wealth of knowledge and was a storyteller like no other; happily sharing his many life experiences. He lived an honorable life and was a true gentleman with a kindness you felt as soon as you met him. His memory will be forever cherished and his life will live on in all of us.
We the family of Floyd wish to thank the Doctors and nurses for the exceptional care given to him. Donations may be made to An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
Floyd was dearly loved by all who knew him.
Arrangements under the direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
In keeping with Floyds wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial will be at Sydney Mines, NS.
