Grace Elizabeth "Betty" (MacDonald) DeGannes

The family of Grace Elizabeth “Betty” (MacDonald) de Gannes regretfully announces her peaceful passing at the age of 93 on Sunday April 29th at Gables Lodge in Amherst NS with her two sons by her side. Betty was born in Bedford, Nova Scotia and was the daughter of the late William H. Mac Donald and Ruby (Hartley) Mac Donald. Betty is survived by her two sons Geoffrey (Janis) of Amherst, NS and Peter (Kathryn) of Ottawa Ont. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Renee, Derek, Jillian and Adam and two great grandchildren, Ella and Jack and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Louis Joseph de Gannes and two brothers, William and Fred Mac Donald. During the war, Betty worked for the Department of National Defence at the Naval Dockyards in Halifax. She moved to Montreal, Quebec following her marriage in 1946 where she resided for over 50 years before returning to Nova Scotia. Betty was an avid tennis player in her younger years and belonged to the Monkland Tennis Club in Montreal.
Cremation has taken place.
Funeral mass will be celebrated from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:00 am with Father Craig Christenson officiating followed by a reception in the parish hall.
