Thelma Rae MacLellan

Born In: Middle River
Born: September 18th, 1916

Passed on: May 14th, 2018

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Thelma Rae MacLellan, 101, at home with her family, on May 14, 2018. Born September 18, 1916 in Middle River, NS to James Edward and Flora (MacRae) MacLeod, she was the youngest of four siblings.
At the age of five, the family moved to her beloved home in St. Patrick’s Channel. Later, she and her husband John Joseph (Joe) lived in Montreal, Shelburne, Bedford and Margaree before returning to the Channel to raise their family. Later, widowed with seven young boys, she passed along to them, her hard work ethic, determination and knowledge.
She was a member of the Middle River Seniors Club, and The Liberal Party of Canada. She loved the outdoors, mowing the lawn, working on the farm, bingo, cards and especially horses. Her love of the outdoors stemmed from a very young age where she would go to the mill with her father and care for the animals on the farm. She was a hard worker all her life and made cream, curds and butter until she “retired” in her eighties.
She is survived by her loving sons, Robert (Mildred), Ronnie (Alice), Bruce (Dorothy), Sandy, Carl and Archie (Cathy); her grandchildren, to whom she will always be ‘Big Grandma’, Debbie (Roddie), Lynn, Violet (Jeff); Rodney (Jen), Elaine, Buck (Eradin) and their mother Margie; Melanie(Todd); Amy (Andrew), Denise (Steve), Kelly, Robin; Jackie (James), Joe (Kate) and Tina (Ryan); great-grandchildren, James, Shane (Danielle), Richard, Nathan, Zachary, Maya and Chester; sister-in-law, Effie MacIsaac, along with many special nieces and nephews, relatives and dear friends from all over. We will forever miss and be proud of our Mom/Ma/Big Grandma.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; son, Jimmy; granddaughter, Ronda Lee; siblings, Elizabeth, Laurier and Dorothy (along with their spouses), and grandson-in-law, Chuck Myers.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of MacAskill’s Funeral Home, Baddeck, NS. Visitation will take place at MacAskill’s Funeral Home on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. with Funeral at Knox Presbyterian Church, Friday, May 18 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brian MacLeod Officiating. Tea to follow at Knox Hall. A private family committal will take place at a later date.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Society of Baddeck, and the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Ritter, Cathy MacMillan and the Victoria County Home Support and all those who helped Thelma stay in her own home.
“We shall meet on that beautiful shore.”
