With heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Robert Briggs Luker, age 71, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on his birthday, Monday, May 14, 2018 at home. Born in Sydney Mines on May 14, 1947, Robert was the son of Ella Mae ‘Queenie’ (Briggs) Luker and the late Robert Luker.
He was a member of Canadian Armed Forces serving 39 years with the Canadian Military and later the Corp of Commissionaires.
He is survived by his mother, Ella Mae ‘Queenie’ Luker, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home; his wife, Mary (MacIntosh); his daughter, Sherry Lynn (Troy) Harris, Georges River; his son, Shawn (Anne) Luker, Sydney Mines; step-children, Patricia Marie Brown (Lawrence Timbury), North Sydney, Lyle Brown (Crystal Blackie), Sydney; his five grandchildren, Mitchell, Julia, Mason, Charlotte, Kathleen; two step-grandchildren, Kayla and Lawrence. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Brian (Kathy) Luker, Bras d’Or, Bruce (Linda) Luker, Sydney Mines, Ricky Luker, western Canada; his sister, Paula (Mike) Michaelis, Florence; nieces and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his father, Robert Luker, and brothers, Gary and Billy Luker.
The family would like to thank Palliative Care, VON, the nurses of 4West at the Northside General Hospital, Dr. Elizabeth MacCormick and Amanda Chapman for the care shown to Robert and also my dear friend Tracy Groves.
Visitation for Robert will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating.
Memorial donations may be given to a charity of choice.
