Michael ‘Mikey’ Edward Burns

Michael ‘Mikey’ Edward Burns, 76, passed away quietly at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on May 19, 2018. He was the youngest son of Denis Burns and Aimée Bourgeois of St-Joseph-de-Moine.
He will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 54 years, Muriel Boyd; his children, Brenda (John Helle), Edmonton, Joan (Glenn MacLaren), Calgary, Dennis (Susan Jerrott), Dominion, Michael (DecolynneJo Barteski), Edmonton and Christopher (Ashley Morash), Edmonton. Lovingly known as ‘Poppy’ to his grandchildren, John, Kevin, Phillip, Kyle, Aimée, Katie, Adriana and Colin; his great-grandchildren, Tori, Kendra, Paislee, Haze and Reid; uncle to many nieces and nephews; friend to many; neighbor and close friend to Gerri Sanderson.
Mikey was always there to lend a hammer to anyone who needed his help. Helping others put a smile on his heart. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, lively conversations with his friends at the Hawk’s Club and his daily visits at the local Tim Horton’s. He created lifelong friendships and he cherished every moment. He will be remembered for his kind and generous heart, playful spirit and his love of family.
He was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Margaret Anne; his brothers, Henry, Joe and William, and his sisters, Jane, Dorothy, Teresa and Yvonne.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Emergency Department at the Glace Bay Community Hospital, the Emergency Department and the ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and kindness.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Dominion.
