J. David Burgess, 90, of Amherst died peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Amherst.
Born in Amherst, he was the son of Clifford L. and Eva (Trueman) Burgess.
David learned to fly at the Amherst Airport. He earned his pilot’s license in 1948 and instructor's rating in 1949. He pursued an aviation career in the Maritimes, Ontario and the West. Following completion of a business degree at University of Western Ontario in 1958, David worked at business the rest of his career, returning to Amherst in 1960 to ABC Heating then operating his own business. David was very active in community affairs and was a lifelong member of Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church.
Survived by his sister Jean (Jack) Matthews, niece Wendy (Neal), nephews Clifford (Caroline), John, and David (Rebecca) and the extended family, whose news he followed with interest.
David was pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Elizabeth, a son in infancy, and his brother Bruce.
There is no funeral by request. Burial will be at the Amherst Cemetery with a family service at a later date.
