Harvey Dennis Penney
Harvey Dennis Penney, age 69, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, after an extended illness. Harvey was the son of the late Edward and Sarah (Boyd) Penney. He grew up in Sydney and graduated from Sydney Academy. After high school, he attended St. FX and received a degree in economics. Harvey was an entrepreneur who expanded the family dry cleaning business, opening a Penney’s Drycleaners on Kings Road in Sydney River, which he operated until his illness forced an early retirement. He enjoyed curling, skiing, boating and spending many happy summers with his family at the cottage he built himself.
Harvey is survived by his children, John (Jane Arnold), Christine (Rodrigo Menafra) and Sarah (Andreas Burger); their mother, Linda (MacDonald) Penney; siblings, Germain Heffernan and Alan; and grandchildren, Evan, Lyla, Lorenzo, Nicolas and Lena.
Harvey was preceded in death by both his parents and his siblings, Reg and Evelyn. A private family remembrance ceremony will be held.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to those who helped care for Harvey through his illness, particularly the staff at My Cape Breton Home for Seniors and Kimberley Hall at Harbourstone Enhanced Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Sydney Curling Club, Junior Curling Program at 619 George Street, Sydney, NS, B1P 1L1.
